Accelerated Technology Provides Application Development Platform For Embedded Developers Using UML
MOBILE, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 26, 2004—
Accelerated Technology(R), a Mentor Graphics division
(Nasdaq:MENT), announced that it has combined its widely used
executable and translatable UML (xtUML) modeling solution with its
extensive prototyping product to offer a new level of productivity to
the embedded software developer.
The Nucleus(R) BridgePoint(R) for UML modeling suite together with
the Nucleus SIMdx prototyping environment provides a complete
hardware-independent platform for developing embedded applications.
Software developers can now develop entire applications and verify
them graphically on the development host, dramatically increasing the
availability of the development platform.
The use of high-level modeling in the embedded world allows
embedded application developers to focus on the application rather
than the deployment hardware by raising the development abstraction
level above the traditional high-level languages. The use of xtUML
language specifically allows the modeled application to be executed
and hence verified at design time, and then translated into either C
or C++ to be compiled directly for an embedded system. By importing
this translated code into the Nucleus SIMdx prototyping environment, a
new level of system level prototyping is realized.
The Nucleus SIMdx prototyping environment gives the embedded
developer the opportunity to build a complete host-based simulated
version of their hardware platform, including peripherals, user
interface, software protocols and IO. This virtual hardware platform
can then run the modeled code against the simulated hardware, and give
the opportunity to do either complete system or specific
module/component testing without the requirement for hardware. Once
the models and the prototyping platform have been built, they can be
deployed to all the software developers as a reusable application
development platform. This reduces the dependence on prototype
hardware and aids global software development teams, who can all write
their software against the same platform.
"Accelerated Technology is unique in the embedded market, offering
a true modeling solution with other embedded technologies such as the
Nucleus SIMdx prototyping product. By combining these technologies,
the embedded developer can now verify his embedded system without
having access to hardware, shortening development time and getting
products to market earlier," said Robert Day, director of marketing,
Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
